SOGELIFE supports the professional inclusion of young people in India

SOGELIFE is supporting Life Project 4 Youth in Luxembourg to finance a training centre in Kannagi Nagar, India. The aim is to offer young people aged between 17 and 24 living in disadvantaged areas the keys to entering the world of work and becoming active members of their community.
Almost 77% of young people aged between 15 and 24 worldwide are in informal employment. This means that they are employed in precarious working conditions, without formal contracts or decent pay, and often with little or no social protection. Most have limited access to education and training, forcing them to take on informal jobs to support themselves and their families. Women are particularly hard hit, reduced to the role of housewife with limited access to economic resources.
Life Project 4 Youth (LP4Y) is a federation of 17 organisations around the world and in Luxembourg that works for the social and professional integration of young people aged 17 to 24, particularly women.
As part of its sponsorship project, the Luxembourg life insurance company SOGELIFE financed LP4Y to support the development of a training centre in Kannagi Nagar in India. Here, young people receive the training they need to develop professional skills relevant to the world of work, and have access to a network of local businesses offering them work experience or employment opportunities. The 6-month training course has already helped more than 200 young people, including 186 women. Most have become developers, graphic designers, receptionists, waiters, sales staff or managers, while others have developed their own businesses.
The funds donated by SOGELIFE will be used to finance 15% of the centre's operating costs (rent, internet, utilities, etc.), to set up training courses and other activities (graduation ceremonies, entrepreneurs' day, company visits, etc.), and to fund an on-site day-care centre for the children of the young mothers so that they can devote themselves fully to their training. By the end of the year, almost 50 young women will have benefited from this support thanks to the efforts of SOGELIFE.
